Relaxation techniques are a great way to relieve stress. The great thing about these strategies is that you can do them anywhere and you don’t need any special equipment or training. Autogenic relaxation – named this because autogenic means it comes from inside you. You use both visual imagery and body awareness to calm your nervous system. Repeat comforting words or suggestions that may help you relax and reduce muscle tension. Many people don’t realize how tense they are until they finally experience a state of relaxation! For example, you can imagine a peaceful setting and then focus on controlled breathing. At the same time, feel different sensations while relaxing different body parts.
